On 15 December, the first meeting of the Community Based Development to Local Development - II gathered in the EU Delegation to Ukraine in participation of representative of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Agricultural Policy, Ministry of Healthcare etc.
The first results of the second phase of the EU / UNDP "Community-Based Local Development" project were presented at a press conference in Zaporizhya Oblast State Administration.
The II phase of the Community Based Approach to Local Development Project (CBA) launched its activities on 7 June 2011. The Project is funded by the European Union and is co-financed and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Citizens of 900 communities from all the regions of Ukraine will benefit from the extended CBA Project over the next four years. With a budget of €17.1 million, the programme will train and support locla leaders and representatives of local authorities to develop democratic processes to decide their own community development needs and implement joint initiatives on improvement of their living conditions. Energy efficiency, water supply, environment, healthcare will continue to be the priority fields of support, and human resource development a cornerstone of the CBA programme. Small businesses in rural areas will be supported through agro-service co-operatives, adding economic development as a fifth priority field. Knowledge management will also play a central role.
