Lvivska oblast is a western part of Ukraine. It borders with Poland and such regions as Volyn, Rivne, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia. Lviv region territory occupies 3.6% of the total area of Ukraine with a population of about 2.54 mln. About 61% of the region population lives in cities and towns.

Lvivska oblast includes 20 rayons, 44 cities, 34 urban villages, 1850 villages.

The largest cities and towns of the region are Lviv, Drohobych, Chervonohrad, Stryi and Sambir.

Lviv region has developed industrial and agricultural sector. Industrial branches of region are food producing, fuel industry, machinery and metalworking, electricity. Agriculture branches are growing cereals, potatoes, vegetables, sugar beets, flax, also developed meat and dairy cattle, pigs and poultry.

The EU/UNDP CBA Project Implementation in Lviv Oblast

Implementation of the first phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project commenced in Lviv region during March 2008. First phase was succeeded by a second phase in July 2011. Over these two phases, about 94000 men, women and children of the region have benefitted from improvement in 83 schools/kindergartens, 17 healthposts, 5 water supply, 2 environment, 11 street-lightning and so on. This happened through joint effort of the citizens, oblast/rayon/local level governments, the EU/UNDP CBA Project and the private sponsors.

Energy Efficiency in Lviv oblast

Lvivska oblast is also the recipient of advanced piloting quota in the area of energy efficiency in Phase 2. Under this support, the regional energy-efficiency policy was updated; adoption of energy efficient technologies and renewable energy technologies in rural areas was promoted; a mobile laboratory has been established to promote energy audit in the region. Lvivska oblast oblast became one of the model case.

Third phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project in Lviv oblast

The Third phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project in Lviv oblast was launched on 16 October, 2014 in Lviv city. 8 rayons were selected for partnership in CBA-III:

Rayons selected for the EU/UNDP CBA-III Project: Sambirskyi, Turkivskyi, Drohobytskyi, Radekhivskyi, Brodivskyi, Kamianka-Buzkyi, Sokalskyi, Horodotskyi.

Micro project approved as of  6 April 2016: 23 micro projects (1 – health, 20 – energy saving, 2 – energy efficiency). Around 24,000 persons will benefit from implementation of these initiatives. Total budget for the initiatives is approx. UAH 7.9 mln (USD 292,000 – 1 USD = 27.09 UAH). The EU/UNDP CBA Project will provide around UAH 4.8 mln (USD 177,000).

2 cities supported for partnership in the EU/UNDP CBA Project within the framework of the urban development component – Drogobych and Zolochiv.

Microprojects approved as of 6 April 2016: 21 micro-projects (13 in Drogobych and 8 in Zolochiv). Around 4,000 persons will benefit from implementation of these initiatives. Total budget for the initiatives is around UAH 4.1 mln (approximately USD 178 ths). The EU/UNDP CBA Project will provide approx. UAH 2 mln (more than USD 89 ths).
