Community Development Plan in the village of Vershatsi in Chyhyryn Rayon of Cherkasy Oblast, was 90% implemented. This was announced to the participants of a workshop, held on September 21, 2011, in the village of Verschatsi, which was attended by coordinators of the Cherkasy project implementation unit.

The “Vidrodzhennya” (Renaissance) public organization from Vershatsi took part in the first phase of the "Community-Based Local Development" project; in June 2009, the general meeting approved the community development plan, which became the foundation for the village social and economic development plan and was approved by the council. The following priorities were set: repair the water supply system; improving quality of medical services; repair of the roads; repair of wastewater disposal system at the kindergarten; repair of the village community centre; reconstruction of street lighting.

During the first phase of the CBA project, Vidrodzhennya public organisation, jointly with the authorities, implemented two projects: repaired the water supply system, and repaired the village first-aid station and purchased the necessary equipment for it. At the same time, the community decided not to stop there and to reach all the goals they had set for themselves.

In particular, they applied to other donors in Ukraine, raised funds among the villager residents, involved local businesses; the village council did not remain idle either. As a result, the joint efforts made it possible to partially restore the street lighting and to set wastewater disposal system at the kindergarten; the greatest achievement was the overhaul of the village community centre!

By their joint efforts, the community managed to fulfil the approved village development plan by 90%. The community believe that in the nearest future they will find possibilities to repair the roads in the village, too. Nina Chubin, Chairperson of the Village Council, and Nina Potyomko, Head of the Vidrodzhennya public organisation, were very enthusiastic telling about all these achievements. 

The attending Chairpersons of other village councils from the Rayon greeted the Vershatsi community and decided to follow their suit and implement the methodology of the "Community-Based Local Development" project in their areas!
